Washington, DC
Mueller was tapped to expand the central utility plant (CUP) on the Georgetown University campus to support significant new utility loads stemming from the addition of MedStar’s new medical/surgical pavilion. The massive, 477,213-square-foot infill project will add 156 private patient rooms, 31 operating rooms, and 32 exam rooms in a new emergency department.
Key components of the CUP expansion included a new 3,700-ton duplex chiller; a 100,000 PPH high-pressure steam boiler; and ancillary pumps, boiler feedwater equipment, water treatment, electrical upgrades, and miscellaneous upgrades to the monitoring and control systems within the CUP. The campus chilled water distribution piping, campus steam distribution piping, and campus electrical service feeders were also modified and extended to support the CUP expansion, new pavilion, and additional future campus development.
