Architect of the Capitol
As part of several on-call, IDIQ contracts, Mueller is providing a combination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services to address the ongoing facility needs of the Architect of the Capitol (AOC).
For close to a decade, our experience entails delivering engineering solutions for historic structures at the US Capitol, the Library of Congress, the Supreme Court, and the other facilities part of the AOC. Notable projects include renovations to the Rayburn Office Building and Longworth House Building, where Mueller provided engineering services to renovate an existing office, restaurant, and cafeteria space and expand the food service and amenity offerings for legislative staff, Capitol employees, and visitors. At the James Madison Memorial Building, one of the three facilities of the Library of Congress (LOC), Mueller’s engineers have worked to replace the building’s motor control centers. Additional work at the LOC includes renovations to the Book Storage Facility, which consists of four storage modules, cold storage rooms, and support spaces.
The Government Publishing Office (GPO) produces and distributes information for all three branches of the Federal Government, from U.S. passports to official publications of the Supreme Court, Congress, and executive departments. GPO’s main building, located several blocks from the US Capitol, was completed in 1940. For this facility, Mueller evaluated the suitability of existing HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems and recommended improvements for the potential lease of space within the GPO complex to other government agencies. The scope of the study encompassed spaces on various floors of three buildings, totaling 69,000 SF.
At the US Botanic Garden, Mueller’s engineers have been working on a highly important project that entails the removal and replacement of a Production facility Greenhouse and a new Quarantine Greenhouse. This project also involves the construction of a new education center, which will house a demonstration kitchen and an urban farm.
