Music and Theater Building

Dedicated Spaces for Music and Theater Departments

The renovation of George Mason’s Music and Theater building allowed it to enhance its performing and fine arts programs. Renovated spaces to support the music program included classrooms, teaching studios, music practice rooms, faculty offices, and other support spaces. The Theater program has a dedicated rehearsal studio, flexible rehearsal space, a production studio, and a design classroom. Shared programmatic areas between the programs include technology classrooms, labs, and a student lounge. The total renovation accommodated 32,600 GSF.

Renovations included the removal of most interior partitions and replacement with new ones to achieve desired acoustical separation and to suit the new program.  Existing HVAC and electrical systems were gutted and completely replaced with new systems. Due to limited available space within the building, the building is served via new rooftop air handling units. The existing building utility connections to the campus distribution systems (chilled water, high-temperature hot water, and electric) were utilized.
